What Is It?
Established in 2004 to keep non-residents hunting Alaska
The Alaska Professional Hunters Association established the Hunter Preservation Fund in 2004 to help ensure that non-resident hunters will continue to have hunting opportunities in Alaska. Anti-hunting sentiment, public land access, hunting privileges, subsistence, reduced hunting seasons, restrictive regulations, predator-prey ratios and ballot initiatives are all challenges that are facts of life for hunters today, especially for non-resident hunters.
Since 1973, APHA has been a leading organization in Alaska guarding against the continual flow of regulatory restrictions on hunting and public land access attempted by anti-sport-hunting groups or government agencies. APHA provides full-time representation in Washington DC and Juneau, is an active and respected participant in the Alaska Board of Game process, initiates predator harvest fee programs, and continues the fight year-round.
How It Works
A $200 HPF membership
An HPF membership is $200, and anyone can take one out. You do not have to be an APHA member, or booked with one, to join — every membership goes directly to protecting non-resident hunting opportunity in Alaska. Personal information is kept strictly confidential by APHA, and a direct donation to the fund can be made at any time.
For APHA professional members: many guides take out an HPF membership for each hunter they book and collect it with the deposit. Funds may be sent to APHA at any point in the year but are due by December 1st.
How best to implement it:
- Include a description of the HPF and what it does in your advertising media.
- Mention it to all prospective hunters during original correspondence.
- Include it as a line-item expense on your guide/hunter contract, due with deposit.
- Send the funds and hunter counts to the APHA office by December 1st.
Direct Donations
Give to the fund without joining
You do not have to be a member to support the Hunter Preservation Fund. Donations of any size fund APHA’s full-time representation in Washington DC and Juneau, our participation in the Alaska Board of Game process, and the legal and legislative work that protects hunting access. With your participation we can substantially help control our own destiny; without it, we will continue to see our hunting rights reduced and restricted.
Giving online is currently limited to the $200 HPF membership. To give any other amount, mail a check to APHA, PO Box 240971, Anchorage, AK 99524, or call the office at 907-929-0619. Anyone wishing to make a direct donation to this fund can do so at any time.
