I am looking for a job as a packer/camp jack for the spring 2026 season. I will be available after April 9, 2026. My name is Matthew Burnash. I’m originally from Mannsville, NY. I have recently retired from a 20-year career in law enforcement. I am looking to relocate to Alaska. I would like to find employment with an outfitter, optimally to include lodging.

I am a lifelong hunter, trapper, and outdoorsman. I have visited Alaska multiple times, starting with a year enrolled at University of Alaska Fairbanks, in 2006. While attending college at UAF, I ran a walking trap line in the Chena Hot Springs area. Since then, my trips have consisted of unguided hunting trips for caribou (rifle and bow hunting), black bear, moose, and fishing.

I hope some of the following skill sets and experiences will be useful to an outfit.

– I am familiar with the physical demands of the mountains, and tundra of Alaska. I have hiked miles of tundra north of the Brooks Range. Chased bears in the mountains of the Chugach. Hunted moose in the forest around Fairbanks.

– I keep myself in excellent physical condition. I work out daily. I still work on my family’s small farm. I still cut, split and stack approximately 8 cords of wood each year.

– I have experienced the extremes in weather that Alaska likes to throw at you.

– I was enlisted in the US Army Reserve and National Guard where I was trained as a Combat Medic. I also held certification as an EMT. I held certification and was an instructor for Basic Life Support and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation for my employment with the New York State Police.

– I have owned and have experience with ATV’s and Snowmobiles.

Please contact me if you think I can be of assistance to your operation.

Alaska Assistant Guide # 221957 – Experience with moose and brown bear – Retired Law Enforcement – Military Veteran

I got back from a successful Alaska Moose hunt last week and was scheduled to go back up to the Alaska Peninsula for bear season when the outfitter indicated he was all set this year and didn’t need anyone else. I have my gear prepped, time off from work and I’m ready to go.  Looking for an honest, trustworthy outfitter that needs immediate assistance.  Thank you.
